Engine Replacement

When we could no longer get parts for our original Perkins diesel engine, I knew it was time to bite a very big bullet. We wanted a very dependable, yet simple engine system to help propel us around the world. We considered, but discarded Yanmar and Volvo – both of which I was familiar with and had worked on on many boats I have sailed. But the latest versions (all common-rail) were more complicated and less user-friendly for farm boys sailing the world. Their electronics packages give many advantages, but end-user maintenance is not one of them. I finally settled on the Sole Advance SK-60, which is a Kubota-based system.
