Once I close on the boat, we plan to do a few fixes, then sail her back to Nanaimo.
There are 2 major options.
The first is straight up the coast (offshore or not) to Nanaimo. There are 2 major issues with this. Current and winds. They both tend to come south, down the coast. Therefore, one would be bashing into the wind and current all 1800 nautical miles up the coast. While some have done this, bashing for 2-3 weeks, up against a lee shore, is not my idea of fun.
The second option takes a bit longer, but is a much more sea-friendly (and crew friendly) way. Cabo, almost straight west to Hawaii. The winds are behind you most of the time. Currents are good too. Then, depending on the location of the North Pacific High, a bit north to find favourable winds, then back into Nanaimo.
So, Option 2 is the plan. Plus…Hawaii. Duhhh. Stay tuned.
